Introduction

picoBeat offers a SyncML service to synchronize with one or multiple phones. This is convenient to always have your informations available, save typing time and allows you to backup and restore your phone informations with the press of a button.

If your phone is a Windows Mobile smartphone please use the picoBeat Sync application instead.

Parameters

You'll need to enter the following parameters into your phone Synchronization options:

Generic parameters

Server address: http://sync.picobeat.com
Username and password: your regular picoBeat account username and password (exactly as entered, including upper/lowercase)

Server id: alpha.picobeat.com (not all phones require this information)
Protocol: SyncML 1.1 (not all phones allow this selection, picoBeat will also support versions 1.0 and 1.2)

Database names

Address book database: contacts
Notes database: notes
To-do/tasks database: tasks
Calendar (events only, see below) database: cal

If your phone does not allow you to synchronize tasks and calendar separately (ie: it considers todo items and appointments to belong to a single database), you can synchronize with picoBeat by using the caltasks database name instead.

Please note the ending s for contacts, notes and tasks.

Other

If you are using a Funambol client, do make sure the SIF data format is disabled for all databases and choose the alternative format offered (vCalendar, vCard, etc.) instead.

Compatibility

picoBeat synchronization has been tested with many phones from many different brands but due to the vast number of existing models we cannot garantee full compatibility with every device.

Known compatible phones

  • LG Viewty
  • Motorola Razr
  • Nokia 5800 XpressMusic
  • Nokia 6260 Slide
  • Sony-Ericsson K700i
  • Sony-Ericsson W910i

Troubleshooting

  • Check your password! Make sure you use the proper upper and lower case for each letters.
  • Make sure you use the proper database names, including any s at the end (such as contacts)
  • If the time of synchronized events is incorrect (a consistent one or several hours of difference) this mean your device and picoBeat are set to different time zones. You can adjust your working time zone in picoBeat in the Tools | Options menu.

Limitations

Many low-end and medium-end phones support calendaring, notes, etc. but have very limited memory capacity (i.e: 10 notes and 300 events). When this maximum is reached, synchronization will be incomplete or lossy as the device will not record updates from the server.

Due to the many ways recurrence (repeating events or tasks) is managed between devices and application, some specific recurrence type might not synchronize properly for events. Some devices simply do not support recurrent events or tasks at all.

Disclaimer

Because synchronization might changes datas on your phone (including deletion), we do recommend that you backup your phone informations before starting a first synchronization (saving contact's to the SIM card while storing them in the phone memory, using the manufacturer or operator provided software, etc.). In no event shall picoBeat be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, exemplary, or consequential damages (including, but not limited to, procurement of substitute goods or services; loss of use, data, or profits; or business interruption).
