Application & Service
Is this free ?
Basic usage (calendaring, contacts, synchronization, etc.) is free, some features such as sending SMS are provided at a cost using prepaid credits that you can obtain by using an international credit card or your Paypal account.
This is beta software, is it reliable ?
Every software has bugs (really) and while we try really hard to squash as many as we can, there are probably some lurking out there. Because picoBeat is fairly new it is considered beta, however we eat our own dog food (that is, we use picoBeat ourselves and trust it to be reliable enough).
What browser is recommended ?
picoBeat has been tested with all modern browsers, including Firefox 3.0, Internet Explorer 7.0, Opera 9.5, Google Chrome 1.0, etc. As of this writing Chrome gives the best performance, but you should be OK with other browsers as well.

You can get a new one generated and emailed to you.
SMS
What are Unicode messages and why are they shorter ?
SMS was designed to transmit only a subset of the latin alphabet, fitting 160 letters per message. When you use signs outside of this character set (non-latin, some accents or special signs), the SMS must be sent using a coding called Unicode that takes up more space and limit the message to 70 signs.
Messages that are too long to fit over a single SMS will be automatically splitted into multiple SMS, and will be billed to you accordingly.
Can I customize the SMS originator ?
For technical reasons (SMS gateways have sometimes their own defined numbers) and legal reasons this is currently not possible. The sender's number appearing on your SMS might change depending on the destination, time, gateway used by picoBeat, etc.
Is delivery garanteed ? How to know ?
Unfortunately between carriers, gateway, networks, phones, etc. there's no way to garantee the delivery of a SMS.
